A Tour To Cairo From Sharm
Each and every year, visitors arrive at the successful location of Sharm from the UK. They come to chill out by the beach or swimming pool. Some want to scuba dive and other spend hours snorkelling on local reefs. There are enough tours on offer for visitors to Sharm and undoubtedly one of the more preferred ones is a tour to Egypt’s capital, Cairo.
Cairo is home to the world notable Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx but the day excursions to Cairo offer you so much more than simply these historic monuments. From Sharm, visitors can either get to Cairo by road or air. Either way, its an early morning start with road tours departing at nearly 2am and flights at roughly five in the morning. It makes for a long day ahead but it is really worth the effort.
Itineraries may vary on trip to trip but often starts with a tour to the Cairo Museum or to give it’s correct title “The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities in Cairo”. The vast majority of the morning is spent here and it is packed with some fantastic treasures. A few of the more outstanding items are those which were found in the tomb of the boy Pharaoh Tutankhamen which include the notable gold and blue death mask. In addition there are many items of furniture and ornaments and one thing that is apparent is how well the colours are preserved in several of the treasures taking into consideration they are thousands of years old. Yet there is so much to explore in the museum hence people have to decide on the areas they want to have a look at.
From the museum, the group is taken down to the River nile for a meal aboard a river boat. There is a decent variety of food and for entertainment there are also dancers. On the other hand, you can watch the skyline dotted with various Cairo hotels and other landmarks pass by as you sail up and back to your departure point.
Next are the Pyramids of Giza. Looking at a large number of photos, you may be forgiven for believing the Pyramids are in the midst of the desert but that is not the way it is. The Pyramids and Sphinx are merely on the outskirts of Cairo. It is extremely hard not to be astounded once you get close up to the Great Pyramid on account of the sheer size of the it. You’re able to have sufficient time here to stroll round the Pyramids and there are no lack of local people attempting to sell you a broad array of souvenirs or rides on their camels. There are plenty of opportunities for pictures prior to the tour bus takes you a bit further down to the Sphinx. Again, you will be given the opportunity to purchase all kinds of souvenirs and there are more picture opportunities. Having said that, the Sphinx has not worn nearly as well as the Pyramids consequently you can not get as close to it. Its late afternoon as the tour leaves Cairo’s most well-known tourist attractions but there is time for two more visits.
The first of these stops is at a perfume shop where your are asked to try a number of the several scents the shop stocks. Next the tour bus starts to head back to the airport with one final stop en route. Papyrus is the paper like material produced by the age-old Egyptians from the pith of the Papyrus reed. It was used to write on but now, it is a regularly occurring tourist souvenir, almost always with images of historic Egyptian gods and similar images. At the Papyrus shop, there is a wide range of Papyrus available and holidaymakers and visitors can also observe a display of how contemporary Papyrus is created.
The tour coach leaves and the excursion to Cairo is over. The excursion now returns to the airport for the flight back to Sharm el Sheikh el Sheikh or the road journey. The day trips to Cairo from Sharm el Sheikh are quite tiring but are good value. For travellers staying in Sharm el Sheikh, it is a terrific way to watch several of the points of interest of Cairo without actually staying there.
