Does The News Affect You From Travelling To Destinations?
When you hear stories through the news and other sources of media does it deter you from travelling abroad? Does what you hear from your friends, family and the people around you have a direct impact on decisions you make concerning you’re travelling abroad? There are many opportunities to volunteer overseas and although it is very important to listen to the media and the news and also what your families and friends tell you to do, you have to understand that companies would not send volunteers to destinations that were deemed unsafe.
We have seen a revolt in many Northern African countries so far this year and obviously many organisations have cancelled their trips and their placements to these destinations but so far the rest of Africa there is no sign of any unusual political turmoil or uprising. Many of these African countries are among some of the safest in the world. Whether you want to volunteer in Tanzania or volunteer in Ghana, the opportunities for you to travel abroad and avoid conflict and disruption is readily available to you. Listening to all the media has to say about a country is perhaps not the wisest thing to do as some of it could be biased and may completely change your mind from travelling at all. North Africa has received a lot of bad press recently but this does not mean that the entire continent in now a dangerous area.
When people work abroad they do so because they want to make a change and also to experience a different life to the one in which they are living at home. This is a perfect opportunity to do something like that and the last thing volunteers need before they travel is people telling them ‘it’s not safe’ and ‘you’re likely to get into trouble’ when the people saying this have no experience of travel to these regions. For whatever reason is seems many people are to easily brainwashed and believe everything they see.
