Gap Years Overseas, Make Sure You Make The Most Of It
When talking about ‘Gap Years’ you seem to get a mixed response from the adults to the youngsters. Teenagers and people about to take a gap year are usually on the verge of excitement whereas parents are a lot more cautious thinking about stories of foreigners getting mugged or killed. In an ideal world i think the majority of parents would like to see their children finish their A-Levels and then go off to university to get a degree. This isn’t the right path for many people. It is not uncommon for people to want to volunteer abroad on their year out.
Not every student that leaves university can take up the opportunity of a gap year as many simply cannot afford it whereas others did not get the correct grades and wish to re-sit. The fact that you are not able to take part in volunteer work may seem like the end of the world but remember there is always the following year. There are many different opportunities to take out there in the wide world such as camp America and other sporting camps which do not cost and arm and a leg. These are also important development stages for any candidates that wish to travel to university. Remember that universities do not just look at grades they take into account the broader spectrum of your life.
Teenagers in the UK and Europe now look to volunteer in Tanzania to teach English to many children from government funded schools to the poorer children. There are also other popular fields of work including construction, orphanage work and working in local hospitals. Another hugely popular field of work is with the wild animals of Africa especially which is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see these amazing animals up closer and personal and to be working with them.
