What You Should Never Forget To Pack When Going On A Gap Year
Packing those bags of yours can be the single most stressful part of your entire gap year Whether you are going to work as a volunteer abroad or travelling the world the preparation is stressful. Ensuring your passport is valid, getting your vaccinations and sorting out your visas for travel can prove to be a lot easier than packing your bag full of clothes.
When participating on one of many volunteer projects abroad there is distinct possibility that you will not have access to a washing machine. Why not do your washing the quick local way and get a bucket of water and soap and scrub them clean. When participating in a gap year you may not simply have time to be able to spend a whole day washing and hanging up your clothes. Just when you need the item of clothing you are looking for you will find it at the bottom of your bag, screwed up and not washed since the last time you wore it.
Even if you forget everything else on your trip, sun cream is something you will not be able to live without. As most gap year projects are in much warmer climates i.e. Africa your skin will remind you when you get there that you need to put on sun tan cream as your pasty skin will not be able to cope otherwise. Regardless of how much sun tan cream you decide to pack it is very difficult to be 100% careful all of the time and it is inevitable that you will get sunburnt at one time or another. If you are going to be volunteering in Malawi. or in fact anywhere else in Africa make sure you take some as the sun is very strong in the tropics.
No matter how strong your stomach is at home is may be no match for a different climate and a different cuisine. If you are one of many travellers who are unlucky enough to pick up a stomach bug the side effects might well keep you confined to your bed or the bathroom but it is mainly the other effects that you need to worry about. A prevalent part of a stomach bug is also dehydration which can be a killer if not taken care of.
If you follow these three tips you will be ready to show the world what you’ve got!
